Packaging Recyclability Evaluation Portal (PREP) Tool Analysis
The Packaging Recyclability Evaluation Portal (PREP) is an online platform. Organisations are able to use to verify if their packaging is or isn’t recyclable in Australian and New Zealand kerbside collections.
In May 2020 a PREP Tool analysis was conducted on all domestic Berton branded wine which concluded that 100% of the packaging was recyclable by curb side.
Berton Vineyards will conduct more analyses of its product packaging in the future as required by APCO and according to our five-year packaging action plan.

The Consumer
Right now, glass is only recycled at a rate of 32%. This is due to several reasons:
Consumer choices at the end of product life
The curb side bins in Australia accepting mixed recyclable materials which increases the chance of contamination.
(however, the container deposit scheme in NSW has enabled a decrease in contamination of glass as well as plastic and aluminium)
Broken glass, making it impossible to be sorted at recycling facilities
The APCO target for glass recycling rate is 50% by the year 2025.
The APCO target for all materials recycling and composting rate is 50% by 2025, however it is currently 35%.
